Throughout the last year, it was pretty much close to impossible to spend an exorbitant amount of money on personal wants such as shopping retail stores, restaurants, and other social activities. Although the economy has much recovering to do, the effects of the pandemic resulted in an increase in Americans saving. Without the temptations due to closure and staying home, Americans had no need to continue to spend the same amounts of money.
While saving and paying off debt is exactly what many people needed to do, it is also important to kickstart the economy again. Shopping and supporting businesses is the best way to do this, while prioritizing finances. There are many mixed feelings about when social activities and shopping should start to pick up more, some are more ready and willing than others. Once life gets back to a “pre-covid” normal, it is extremely important to not turn to excessive amounts of spending to make up for the last year. Finance experts have called this “revenge spending” and fear that if Americans don’t keep finances in perspective, debt will skyrocket.
